The Central Valley of Costa Rica is known for one of the best climates in the world. Some people live in mountain locations where daytime temperatures average around 70 degrees depending on the elevation.

The fertile soils support all types of agriculture and the mountains are lined with coffee plantations., The thousands of acres of protected parks and the two active volcanoes Poas and Irazu and the historical sites of San Jose make this a great tourist destination.

For those seeking tranquil environment or for those seeking the advantages of a big city, the Central Valley offers both, The Juan Santanaria international airport. Major universities .commercial complexes and excellent medical facilities are all located there.

If you enjoy large shopping malls casinos and nightlife you will find it all in or near San Jose Or take a 30 to 45 minute trip you will let see breathtaking mountain scenery and find small rural communities that have a small town atmosphere

Many expats select this county lifestyle for retirement. However most choose something in-between making Escazu and Santa Ana the most popular locations.

Central Valley Region of Costa RicaCiudad Colon, Puriscal and other outlying locations are becoming popular because they offer vacant land and lots for at lower costs. The established communities of Alajuela, Curridabat, and Heredia offer great opportunities for renting or purchasing affordable housing while still offering the amenities that expats require.

The central valley still offers real estate bargains. Luxury estates can be purchased for less than $800,000 that would cost millions in other areas or a new three bedroom home can be obtained for less than $75,000 in the right location.

Some couples can live or retire here for as little as $1000 a month.

The transportation system is excellent with local bus fares from, 30 to, 60 averages. A bus trip to most beaches will be around $5.00 so one can get along without a car.

Electricity is very reasonable because there is no need for heating or air conditioning in the Central Valley.

Cell telephone rates start at about $8.00 a month.

Imported foods can be expensive, while vegetables, fruits and poultry are inexpensive. Residences that can afford it employ maids and gardeners for as little as $10.00 a day.

After one obtains residency it is legal to find employment. English speakers are needed in many positions but don’t expect to become rich for most jobs pay about $5.00 to 7.00 per hour. Most that start companies here are successful because the western style of doing business is well received
